Opportunity to Attend Moral Revival in Charleston

One of the premier preachers of the Disciples of Christ denomination, Rev. Dr. William Barber, is leading a Moral Revival movement that is taking place in 15 cities across the country.  You can learn more about the movement by going to the following website:  The revival will be coming to Charleston, SC on Sunday, October 23 and will be held at Mount Zion AME Church at 8 Glebe Street from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.  In addition to Dr. Barber, speakers will include Rev. Dr. James Forbes, Minister Emeritus of Riverside Church in New York City; Dr. Traci Blackman, UCC Director of Justice and Witness Ministries; and Sister Simone Campbell with the Nuns on the Bus ministry.  The focus of the revival is to challenge people to show more compassion for others.  Issues highlighted include the need for the living wage, equity in education, prison reform, voting rights, the fight against systemic racism, and health care reform among others.

There is expected to be a workshop on Sunday afternoon at Circular Congregational Church located at 150 Meeting Street to discuss creating an ongoing movement in South Carolina around these issues.  Anyone who would like to go please contact Rev. Tom Faulkner at (864)430-3023.  Tom is arranging housing at Metanoia, a faith-based non-profit located in North Charleston, SC.  The plan would be to make the workshop and the revival and then spend the night at Metanoia after the revival and return home the next morning.  There would be an opportunity to tour Metanoia’s ministries Monday morning before people head home.

Please give prayerful consideration to attending this Moral Revival.  It could be the beginning of a new future for South Carolina.
